Consultancy
Collectively we have over 42 years experience in Information
Technology. Our principal consultant used to replace heads in disk
drives, and he used to build computers which involved a soldering iron
and a bag of components, not buying a motherboard, hard disk and a
video card from PC World! With diverse involvement since the 1980s in
roles such as customer service, technical support, research &
development, pre-sales support, network architect and security
architect, we have certainly walked the walk. This experience supports
our consultancy services, which include:
•
Technical Consultancy – our staff has many years experience in the
leading areas of IT, including Windows Server/Active Directory, Check
Point, Cisco, RSA, Citrix, VMWare, WebSense, McAfee to name a few.
Whether you need a security architect to help design a part of your
critical infrastructure, or simply someone to help with a network
deployment, please contact us.
• Business
IT Consultancy – we look at your business and identify areas where
processes can be improved through the more effective use of technology.
This doesn’t always mean a cost implication – often it simply needs a
more efficient use of the tools and systems you already have in place.
• Security Auditing – as a previous UK government security advisor*, we
are able to assess how the business approaches data security. Solutions
to improve and enforce security can be found elsewhere on this website,
however the first step is to establish exactly what you need. We will
spend time on your site interviewing key personnel to understand their
approach to security. In conjunction with your CIO, we will provide a
written report on where we believe there is risk and how the business
should approach the mitigation.
* Although our government experience may conjure up an impression of
high cost, this is not the case. We are able to determine the
priorities for your business without incurring the cost of James Bond’s
Aston Martin!
• Disaster Recovery Planning – one of the more overlooked aspects of IT
is how you can continue to operate in the event of a disaster. Often
called Business Continuity, it defines the procedures taken by the
business in the event of an unforeseen disaster to ensure the business
is still able to operate and survive. Disaster is often taken to mean
fire, floods and earthquakes. However there are many more closer to
home aspects to consider. For instance, do you do backups? Do you?
Really?! Almost without exception, every business we visit do backups,
but the number of businesses who regularly test their backups and test
their procedures for total system recovery are next to zero. The time
to find out that your backups do not work correctly is not 15 minutes
after the air conditioner empties a gallon of water on your prize
server – it’s now! This is all Disaster Recovery Planning.
• Vulnerability Assessment – you may have a firewall installed, but are
you sure it is correctly configured? We are able to test the firewall
from the Internet to determine the risk to the business from hackers.
The same tests can also optionally be carried out internally to measure
the security of your internal systems from internal attack (which
remember, is statistically where 80% of the security risk originates).
A report will detail the risks and offer remedial action advice to your
IT department. Alternatively, we can secure it for you.
